5.0 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt Delight February 23, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Polished and professional, After brings enjoyable characters to life in an authentic voice. Ehrentreu’s exquisite imagery, such as milkweeds flowing like tears in the wind, captures the reality of experiencing empathy for a loved one within an age appropriate, accessible novel. The prose flows beautifully through all the real life realities of grief and change that befall the heroine, from compassion for her hospitalized father, to bonding with her Dad about the Mets, to glimpses of her deep feelings of friendship for her buddy Joey emerging into love. A believable coming of age story filled with all the heartache, joy and humour of friendship and love. You don’t have to be a young adult to appreciate Ehrentreu’s riveting depiction of those life-changing moments of hands first touching, the electricity of dates and parties and discovering the intensity of feeling for that person who seems to be designed just for you. Ehrentreu’s gifted insight into humanity shines through this compelling narrative. Don’t miss out!

5.0 out of 5 stars AFTER, a teen novel by Barbara Ehrentreu December 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Sometimes the people close to you are just there and it takes a major event in your life for you to see them in a new light. A crisis can change a lot of things in your life. For fifteen-year-old Lauren, her life under goes such an event 'after' the phone call telling her her father is ill.
Lauren struggles with her father serious condition and that crisis leads Lauren to realize her deep feelings for her best friend from childhood, Joey. All Lauren wants is for Joey to comfort her and her sadness slips away when Joey's with her. Only Joey has a girlfriend who is mean and resents Lauren and her problem.

'After,'is a believable account of the hardships and headaches of having a sick parent and a real emotion of blooming love from a true friend that grows through the sympathy of these events. You feel Lauren's fear that Joey is not feeling the same. That unsure, chaotic and warm all over of young love. From school to the hospital setting and that first hint of young love unspoken between lovers, you are there, a part of their experience.

The story moves and pacing is good. I applaud Ms. Ehrentreu's achievement of capturing these feelings and events in the young life of a teenage girl. She gets it right how teens feel love; the uncertainty of how the other person feels about you in return and your fears that you are reading more into it than there is. 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Teen Girls Will Identify With Lauren December 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
gave AFTER five stars because I believe so many teen girls will relate to the situations and feelings of the main character in this book. Lauren is 15, a tough age for kids trying to get a handle on life. But added to this, Lauren's father is stricken with a heart attack. Ms. Ehrentreu portrays the family dealing with this sudden life and death situation in their lives very well. The conversations seem so real. I almost felt like I was eaves-dropping in their lives! The author tackles another teen emotion, falling in love, but this one is even more difficult to deal with when she is having romantic feelings for a boy she has known since kindergarten. Big problem. He has a girlfriend and she is definitely NOT friendly with Lauren. The ending is very satisfying, but I'm not going to spoil it for you. You'll enjoy this great read.5.0 out of 5 stars a must readDecember 10, 2014

AFTER BARBARA EHRENTREU

Lauren is a 15 year old girl with an average life and friends. Her best friend is Joey. When her dad has a serious heart attack her friends rally around her for support. Joey is there for her the most even though he has a girlfriend. Lauren starts to have extra feelings for Joey but doesn’t want to do much about it until her dad recovers.
After looks at the teenage angst where love and friendship are concerned. The book also deals with the fears a family goes through when one of their own is very ill. Full of emotion and heartache AFTER will make the reader hope for a happy ending and doesn’t disappoint for good story telling. I would definitely give this 5 stars.

The Shock of Finding Out December 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I read Barbara Ehrentreu's If I Could Be Like Jennifer Taylor, and this one doesn't disappoint. My favourite part was when Joey, the boy she likes... wait, I can't tell you...you have to read it and find out, but for sure you'll find yourself saying, "Ha. She deserved it!" Anyway, a great read.
